High Land

When the parachutes fail to deploy during Annie’s first-ever tandem skydive, her instructor takes the ground impact, but is killed in the heroic act of saving her. Hailed ‘Miracle Girl’, Annie’s death-defying fall from high above land becomes news around the world, setting off a chain of mysterious and deadly events, with origins going back twenty years.

After several weeks in hospital, Annie regains consciousness from a coma, but at first doesn’t recognise her parents and is uncertain of her own identity. To convalesce, Annie’s protective parents take her to their fortress-like home, deep in Australia’s Southern Highlands. Here, after stumbling across a secret stash of information that doesn’t add up, she also becomes convinced someone wishes her harm. These chilling clues point to finding answers in Europe. Unaware of her newfound celebrity, Annie escapes to London, the Highlands of Scotland and former Soviet bloc countries. Danger follows her as the truth slowly unravels.

Starkly original, High Land has more twists and turns than a winding mountain road. Get ready for the ride.

No-one is quite who they seem and there is an abundance of twists and turns with a final shock in the concluding chapter, which will keep mystery lovers in suspense. Nothing is as clear as it seems.

The opening is gripping and dives (ha!) straight into the action. Sarah grabbed my interest and held onto it all the way through.
